Harvest Time

The advent of late summer and early fall bring happy childhood memories to mind — the sweet smell of burning leaves, the quickening pulse which accompanies the football season, the advent of cool air bringing relief to cross-country team runners, and the comfort of too-big-to-eat pastries at the Apple Dumpling Festival and hearing the roar of motorcycle races at the Reading Fair.

As a young photographer, I continued my love affair with autumn while I fanned out across the agricultural fairs in Central Pennsylvania (please see the Place section of this website to learn more).

And now, I’m exploring the sights, sounds and smells at agricultural fairs in Connecticut. Even in a largely urban and suburban, highly educated state like Connecticut, I find images that connect me to the soil and people who tend to the crops we depend on.
